Is it just me, or has there been a veritable drought of good movies lately? It seems like the last year or so, only one OK/Good movie has come out at a time, and they are few and far between. You spend 2 hours watching it and then you're bored again, until the next one is out. I remember the days when there were 4 or 5 really awesome movies out and you had to play rock-paper-scissors to decide which one to see first!!
Basically what I'm saying is that I need to see a good movie. If there's any oldies but goodies that I should see, let me know!!

Day Off!!
I had the day off today. It was awesome!! I love a three day weekend. I especially liked this one.
My brother-in-law and his girlfriend came over Saturday/Sunday. He went to school in the college town my husband and I live in, so we went to the local bar (one of the best!) for dinner. Then a late night of playing the Wii and watching "the Office" re-runs. What more could you ask for?
Today, my sisters and I took a road trip to the local IkeaIkea to do some serious shopping. It was really fun!!
Back to work tomorrow, but it's a four day week now, so I'll survive.

Podcast Mania
I have just rediscovered my love of Podcasts. Back 6 or so months ago I was totally into listening to a few Podcasts. Especially Diggnation. Then I drifted away for one reason or another.
Now I have a new job where I can listen to music or whatever during the day. I got a bit tired of music all day, so I thought to myself, "Hmm, perhaps I should load a Podcast or two, just to break up the monotony." So, I did. And then I loaded some more. My husband also suggested a few. Then I decided to check back in with Diggnation, my old favorite. Basically, podcasts all day.
Then, as I listened throughout the day, I started writing down things that I wanted to look up, or check out, or whatever, when I got home. Listening to Diggnation also brought me to the realization that the Ctl+Alt+Chicken concept that was just a gleam in Alex Albrecht's eye was a now a reality. So now, as I surf the web at night, looking up all those things that peaked my curiosity throughout the day, I learn how to "cook" with Alex and Heather. I am obsessed!!! I figure that, as long as I don't start resorting to IM to communicate with my husband, I'm still not too foregone.
I did have to reel it in a bit at work. I was laughing so hard listening to Diggnation, I was starting to sound a bit loony (headphones+ me laughing uncontrollably= no one else knows why I'm laughing= Sarah looks insane).
But on the bright side, my new web-based addiction has brought my blog back to the forefront of my mind. So, I've got that going for me.
Any how, here are some of my favorites:

Wow-Wii
We FINALLY got a Wii. It was totally worth getting up at the butt crack of the morning and standing in arctic conditions (ok, we only had to stand in line for 5 minutes before they handed out the tickets.) It took forever, but we finally did it, and it is FUN!! Plus you get "exercise" if you use the Wii Fitness function.
In any case I love it. I will wait with bated breath until my favorite game of ALL TIME becomes available for dowload. My life wasn't the same after Adventure Island.
My husband is currently playing Zelda, which I have heard is very popular with new Wii owners. I've got to be honest, there is a creepy little kid-type being in the game that speaks with a super creepy spritley voice. It is CREEEE-PY and I hate it. So, for money, the game is only great with the volume off.

I'm back in business!! I have not forsaken you, my devoted readers (Thanks, Ray. Thanks, Sue.) In any case, I will try to keep up on my blog a bit better. Don't hold me to it, but I'll try. More to come...I hope...

A Weekend Away
My husband and I went away this weekend. His parents are on a week long trip to Northern Michigan, so we went up to meet them for the weekend. As a Michigander, it's always a treat to travel up to Mackinac Island. It's a time to remember the history of our state, a time to appreciate the natural beauty of Northern Michigan... Who am I kidding, it's a time to eat lots of fudge and get a t-shirt or two.
We did have a lot of fun though. Being that tourist season is officially over, the island was considerable less chaotic than it normally is. The weather was perfect. Not too hot, not too cold, and it was SO clear. My husband and I walked around the island to some of the different building sites. We actually walked to one old fort that I don't believe I had been to before.
There was also a Civil War re-enactment troop in Fort Mackinac this weekend, so there was a few extra demonstration to watch. Usually I am not a great proponent of guns, but for some reason, when I am in the Mackinac area, I like to see as many guns and cannons shot as possible.
Unfortunately, since it was so late in the season, my favorite island exhibit had already been closed. That is the St. Martin exhibit. St. Martin had a hole in his stomach that would not heal. Through it, Dr. William Beaumont was able to conduct a number of studies of the human digestive system. Yes, I know this sounds disgusting, but it really is very interesting.
Now, I realize that many people who may read this blog may not even know what Mackinac Island is, or why it is so darn great, but let me tell you, you should really check it out. It is an extremely beautiful bit of Michigan land, with a lot of Michigan history. There are tons of things to do and it's really just a great place to get away.

Home Sweet Home
Yay! We are officially back in Michigan, and it feels sooooo goooood (shoutout to the Teen Girl Squad). Seriously, it's great to be back. It's one of those things where you realize how much you enjoy a place when you haven't been there in a while.
I really love our new apartment, even though it's identical to our old one (maybe that's why I love it so much.)
Now on to finding a job. If anyone is in need of an experienced HR Generalist, I'm your girl!!!

Just one of those days.....er, weeks
What a week!!! Have you ever had a week where it felt like the universe was testing your breaking point. This has been that week. Things were a bit tense at work this week. I can't really go into detail, but it simply was not the smooth operation I'm used to.
One of our cats also started limping. We gave it a day or two so see if she had simply twisted a kittly ankle or something of that nature, but when it was obivous that nothing was improving, off to the vet we went. Two little punctures is her leg were suspiciously similar to the bite print of our other cat. Several days of antibiocs and one of those crazy neck cone things later, she seems to be on the comeback trail.
I also took my car in for a routine check up, only to find that I was sorely in need of new of brakes. The fronts are fixed and the backs scheduled for repair, so now I'M on the comeback trail.
I don't mean to complain. Just a bit frusterated. But tomorrow starts a new week. It's gonna be a GOOD week. Less than two weeks until the move, so I have plenty to do.

Relaxing weekend
My husband had a weekend work project that was going to require some late nights and daytime sleeping. So I decided to blow town so he could have some peace and quiet.
So off I went to visit my mom and sister. We had a lot of fun. We spent a lot of time complaining about being bored, but somehow boredon is still fun with family. We had dinner together on Friday, hung out a bit, and then on Saturday, my sister went with me to get a haircut. It's super cute, if I do say so myself.
My favorite part was helping my sister clean her room at her apartment. Silly, I know, but it was fun. A job well done, and we still just got to hang out at the same time. I'll be very glad to move closer to her later this month.
I got home last night, so I got to have a lazy day today with the husband. Reading and relaxing, just the way a weekend should be!!

Hotter'n Hades
It's very hot. I went outside for about 10 minutes today and my skin turned red and tingle-ly. I took it as a bad sign and went back in. You know it's hot when a dip in the pool that you would usually classify as "freezing" sounds like an endeavor that would just be too hot.
Actually, I think it has cooled down to a mellow 85 degrees now, but I'm still staying inside, enjoying the air. Now that I'm a grown-up, working 8-5 in a nice air-conditioned office, I've become a bit of a sissy when it comes to summer weather. Don't get me wrong, I can still appreciate the beautiful of a sunny, 95 degree August day, but it looks so much prettier, when I, myself, am a cool 75 degrees.
So, to keep cool, I'm going to do as many low-impact chores as possible tonight. You, know, bills, watching TV...um, giving myself a pedicure. OK, so maybe the heat has sapped a bit of my energy, but they don't call them the "lazy days of summer" for nothin'.

Not So Lazy Sunday
It's raining. The type of day where I just want to put my PJs on and settle in with a good book (I'm working my way through the Spenser series right now.) But no, such luxuries were not possibloe today. With an impending move home to Michigan, there is much packing to be done.
Only 26 days until the moving truck is parked in front. It sound like a lot of time, but I'm still not sure we'll be ready. I got 2 boxes of clothes packed today. I'm feeling pretty good about that. If I can get one more box packed by the end of the day, I'll be even happier.
I have to admit, I'm very excited to move back. Given the fact that this is the 2nd time I've moved back to East Lansing since I graduated from college, I'm beginning to get the feeling that it is where I belong.
It's really a great city. Lots of students and book-learning, and most importantly, lots of really great restaurants. A really great city. So EL, here we come. Ready to enjoy you again.
And just think, a month from now, I'll be able to relax on my Sundays again!!

My first post
I'm Sarah. This is my blog. A glimpse into my mind. Kinda scary.
Inspired by my cousin who has moved south of the border, I have decided to create a blog of my own. I don't really know what I'll put in it. It has been a LONG time since I've posted anything on the web (unless you count the page that I created in college which I just realized has been up without any attention for nearly 10 years. oops!)
Tune in occasionally to see if I've had any moments of brilliance. That's all for now.
